What is Tutsy?

Tutsy is an online tutoring marketplace built on a different business model to the platforms most tutors have used: it takes no commission on lessons.

Zero commission, on both sides. The hourly rate written on a listing is the rate the student pays and the rate the tutor keeps. Tutsy doesn't skim a percentage of the tutor's rate, doesn't add a service fee to the student's bill, and doesn't raise its cut as a tutor teaches more hours. A tutor charging $30/hour receives $30/hour, and a student paying $30/hour pays $30/hour.

That gap matters most at the higher end of the market. On platforms charging 15–33% commission, a coach billing $70 an hour hands over $14–23 of every lesson — including lessons with students they found themselves.

How it works. Tutors publish a listing describing what they teach, how they teach it, and their hourly rate. Students search by subject, compare tutors, and message the one they want to learn from. Searching and browsing need no account.

What it costs. Posting is free, and every tutor keeps one permanently free listing. There are two optional paid extras, and both are charges for placement in the marketplace rather than for teaching:

  • Additional listings and extra visibility — a flat monthly fee per listing, from $5 to $29 depending on how prominent the listing is, or 20% less paid yearly.
  • A visibility top-up — listings gradually drift down the rankings as newer ones appear. A one-time payment restores a listing to full visibility, priced by how far it has drifted, up to $20 for a complete restore. Listings on a paid plan get 10–25% off that.

Neither is tied to how many lessons anyone teaches, and students pay Tutsy nothing.

Subjects span academic tutoring (math, sciences, humanities), languages, test prep, music, and professional skills.

Tutsy is independent and early — the marketplace is still growing.
