What is Tuwunel?

Tuwunel is a featureful Matrix homeserver written entirely in Rust, built as a scalable, low-cost, enterprise-ready alternative to Synapse. It fully implements the Matrix Specification for all but the most niche uses and works with existing Matrix clients, bridges, and bots.

The project is the official successor to conduwuit and is developed by full-time staff, primarily sponsored by the government of Switzerland, where it is deployed for citizens.

Migration from a conduwuit deployment is a straight binary swap, and it ships as static binaries, Deb/RPM packages, Docker images, and distro packages for Arch, Nix, Alpine, and Gentoo.
