What is WinMice?

WinMice is a native macOS menu-bar utility that restores two mouse behaviors Windows users miss on a Mac. Middle-click anywhere and move the pointer to scroll by direction and distance, the way autoscroll works on Windows. Map your mouse's side buttons to back and forward so they navigate in Finder, Preview, and every other app, not just browsers.

Written in Swift and AppKit rather than Electron: a single ~1.7 MB menu-bar process that idles at effectively no CPU or memory. Releases are Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, and it asks for Accessibility permission only, used for nothing but reading mouse buttons and posting scroll and navigation events. Source is MIT licensed on GitHub.
