Yomimaru is a Japanese reading app with the vocabulary review built in. You read something at your level, tap the words you do not know, and every word you tap comes back as a review card until it sticks. The next text is picked for you, so you never open the app wondering what to study.
Your reading comes from a few places. A curated library graded from Absolute Beginner to N1, with public-domain classics from Aozora Bunko (Sōseki, Akutagawa, Dazai) modernized so the old spelling reads naturally today, plus original stories written for each level. And the day's news from Japanese outlets, rewritten at your level.
Then there is whatever you bring yourself. Paste text, or drop in a PDF, EPUB or DOCX. Manga, visual novels and graded readers go in as images or a multi-page PDF, every page read, so you tap words straight off the artwork and the whole volume lands in your library.
Every text opens in the same reader. Tap any word for its reading, meaning, JLPT level and an example sentence, without leaving the page. Furigana follows your level, so readings appear only over kanji you have not learned, and a free WaniKani or MaruMori connection keeps that matched to what you already know.
The review deck builds itself out of what you looked up, so you never have to make a list yourself. Cards come back on a spaced repetition schedule. They run in both directions, read the word aloud when you flip them, and you grade each one Again, Good or Easy. Export to Anki or CSV anytime.
If you are starting from zero, there is a kana course covering all 208 hiragana and katakana characters with stroke order and audio, as well as mnemonics to help you remember them. Your first real story unlocks after four rows of hiragana.
When a sentence will not click, the built-in AI tutor, Tomo-Sensei, breaks it down at your level: particles, clause structure, dropped subjects, conjugation chains.
Reading, lookups, the full library, the daily news, the review deck and the kana course are free with no credit card. Paid plans lift the import limit and add more time with the tutor.
