What is YouTube Clips?

YouTube Clips let any viewer select a 5 to 60 second segment of a video and share it as its own youtube.com/clip/ link that played only that segment. It was built into the player, needed no third-party tool, and the clip played through YouTube itself, so views credited the original creator.

YouTube retired clip creation for viewers on April 17, 2026, across the website and the mobile apps. The official replacement, share at timestamp, sets a start time but no end time. Clip links created before the retirement were not deleted and still play their segments; only the ability to make new ones was removed.
