This is definitely the best way to memorize things long-term and finally get rid of that pesky imposter syndrome. I use it for all sort of things from learning programming to memorizing vocabulary in foreign languages.

UI is very unintuitive and even then, it's inconsistent. Inconsistent in itself, and inconsistent with normal expected OS behaviour, such as when text is selected and a key is pressed (spoiler, it doesn't overwrite the selection like it should). Expect to google a lot of basic things, like how to delete a flashcard from the deck.

So there's quite a learning curve, and it's primarily designed for long-term learning. If learning for exams, you'll need to make a few adjustements. On the plusside, it's free and open-source and there's free cloud-syncing services.

Very useful for memorization, probably the best flashcard application due to it's cloud saving, and general dependency on community.

It's a powerful app with a clean and simple UI (featuring a native UI for macOS).

And there are plenty of add-ons to choose from.

What is Anki?

Anki is a program that makes remembering things easy. Because it is a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying or greatly increase the amount you learn.

Anyone who needs to remember things in their daily life can benefit from Anki. Since it is content-agnostic and supports images, audio, videos, and scientific markup (via LaTeX), the possibilities are endless. For example:

learning a language studying for medical and law exams memorizing people's names and faces brushing up on geography mastering long poems even practicing guitar chords!

Anki cards are displayed like webpages, so you can optionally style them with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

There are big communities, e.g., r/Anki, and you can share and download decks among the community.

You can select from hundreds of add-ons developed by the community to extend Anki beyond its core functionality.

Reviews When you're ready, start reviewing your flashcards. Rate your recall with the most suitable option and Anki will schedule the next review for when you're most likely to forget the information.
