CanQuiz

CanQuiz is for the moment you have the material and no way to test yourself on it. A folder of notes, the PDF the lecturer uploaded, photos of a notebook, the slides from a class, a transcript, a YouTube link. It reads what you give it and writes questions with the options and an explanation for each answer. Up to five files go in at once and come out as one quiz, so your notes and the lecture slides end up in the same place.

Practice is the part that matters. You take the quiz, you see what you got wrong, and you can retry only those. What you save goes into a review queue that tells you what is due today and spaces the rest out, so a subject stays alive between the day you studied it and the day of the exam.

Quizzes are private until you decide otherwise, and there are two ways to hand one over. A link, which keeps your copy tied to the original so you are told when it changes. Or a file: a quiz exports as a small .json that opens in CanQuiz without an account, which is how most of them actually travel — sent over a group chat like any other attachment. There is CSV as well, and a text export that imports straight into Anki.

You can also work from someone else's. Public quizzes are browsable, and duplicating one puts your own copy in your account: edit it, cut what is not on your syllabus, add your own questions. If the person who published it fixes an answer later, your copy says so and you choose whether to take the change.

If you would rather not generate anything, you can write the questions yourself. Single choice, multiple choice, true or false, short written answers and code.

It is free. The AI comes with the account — 20 generations a month, up to five a day — and there is no subscription and no paid plan. You can add your own Anthropic or OpenAI key if you outgrow that.

What it will not do: read .docx files or audio, and put a picture inside a question. Questions are text, which is what lets a whole quiz fit in a file small enough to send over a chat. It runs in a browser and installs as an app on a phone.
