Chromium based. Extensions work. Runs nicely.
What is it for?
From Leo AI: Beacon is a privacy and security-focused web browser built on Chromium, designed to replace traditional certificate authorities with decentralized systems like Handshake, DNSSEC, and DANE for zero-trust HTTPS/TLS validation.
I understand that, but could you provide some examples of where you use this browser?
Chrome store will no longer install extensions into Beacon. Beacon Browser’s decentralized features (Handshake DNS, DNSSEC/DANE validation, and .eth/.forever name resolution) still work. These features are built into the browser. Beacon’s Handshake sync and DNS resolution are per‑browser only. These features mainly give you stronger certificate checks, and access to names that normal DNS can’t resolve. Your IP stays the same. Note that Beacon is the ONLY desktop browser I can find that actually validates and enforces DANE. Browser vendors prefer keeping complete control over security via their own Certificate Authority (CA) root stores. They view DANE—which shifts trust to domain registries and DNS operators—as a threat to that control. However, if a hacker, a malicious ISP, or a government tries to intercept your connection by flashing a fake certificate, DANE detects the mismatch. Reasons used for not enforcing DANE: Fetching TLSA records introduces sequential DNS queries that can delay the TLS handshake and slow page load. DNS records frequently break due to "human error"; If browsers strictly enforced DANE, millions of legitimate websites would break more frequently.
NO LONGER UPDATED!!!
