Everything is a must-have app that does what it says it does in a clear, simple, flexible and very efficient way. Anybody working with a large number of files spread out in multiple directories will find benefit in using Everything.
How to use it:
Very useful. Instantaneous. Small memory footprint. Not processor intensive. Lots of options.
No it does not search inside files, nor does it claim to do so, nor do I need it too do so ; that would make it too heavy and slow for my use.
Thanks Everything!
2022 update: Everything is still an essential tool for my everyday needs and is still unmatched by Windows' search capacities (which are nowhere near as useful as Everything).
Still a must have in 2025 !

@ Balicky 2013-03-24: If you have your files only on harddisks in your own local computer, where you have admin rights, the search-app "everything" is very OK for You. But if you often search files in much more and much bigger directories in very big company networks with more than 100 TB instead only 7 TB, stored on remote computers, where you have no admin-rights, then you will find nothing with everything. In this case you need Index Your Files, except the admins of the remote computers install "everything" on all remote directories you need for searches.
Makes finding files effortless I use it even as a file manager.
This might be the single most valuable program I've ever used. Seriously it's wild to me this isn't just automatically built into Windows, I don't think I could ever go back to using Windows without it.
Very practical software, fast and accurate search, one of the essential tools for computer setup.
My coworkers often are surprised how fast I can find files, and I attribute this to Everything. I can be on a support call and see just a part of the filename someone has open, and usually find it quickly without them having to give me any information. It has good searching and sorting options. I appreciate the run count, which lets you jump to the most-used file quickly when searching. Everything does not play very well with some virtual file systems, particularly Egnyte, but I think this is a limitation of the technology, not the program. This is one of a handful of tools I use multiple times daily and would not want to be without it.
Literal instant results, no brainer
