What is GedMend?

Merging a received GEDCOM into a master tree is one of the fastest ways to destroy years of work: duplicates appear silently, a confirmed birth year is overwritten without asking, source citations are stripped, accented names garble.

GedMend is the standing advice — analyse first, merge second — turned into software. It runs before your main program touches the master tree. Load both files, confirm which records are the same person (every proposal shows its reasoning, and you set how strict the matching is), resolve each conflict yourself, check the sanity count, then export a clean new file. Your original files will not be changed. Every source citation is preserved. Duplicate families are caught too — you confirm each merge.
