ImageOptim is excellent for publishing images on the web (easily shrinks images “Saved for Web” in Photoshop). It's useful for making Mac and iPhone/iPad applications smaller (if you configure Xcode to allow better optimization).

Imageoptim is a fantastic front-end for your image optimization needs. It uses local resources (good for moderate to high power devices) and allows for lossless optimization too! It is highly customizable with different options for most optimization, fastest etc (but you must know your optimization algorithms). I do not like manually selecting files through the terminal, I prefer using a GUI and this fits my needs perfectly.
Didn't work for me.
The best and easiest free GUI app for Mac for image optimisation.
Of course there are alternatives for other use cases and workflows which are equally fine. ImageOptim has found its place in my Dock over the years, though. It is handy to losslessly compress and remove metadata with dragging and dropping. Its braindead simple usability.
ImageOptim does what is says on the box. Effective and customizable it beats all similar commercial solutions.
