What is kgai?

kgai records the engineering decisions behind your code into a small, searchable knowledge graph. What changed, why, and which alternatives were rejected. It installs as a Claude Code plugin with two commands, and from then on the agent reads relevant past decisions before changing code and records new ones after, without being asked. A kg CLI is included, so querying and recording also works outside Claude Code.

The decision log is append-only and immutable. Decisions are never edited in place. A new decision supersedes the old one and the full history stays queryable, including the dead ends and why they failed, so neither an engineer nor an AI re-walks a path the team already proved wrong. Everything runs locally with no daemon, no server and no account. Team sync is optional, over an S3 bucket you own. Measured at 1 million decisions across 30 writers' shards, a decision lookup still answers in about 100 ms (recall and free-text search are slower).

kgai is MIT licensed. Prebuilt binaries ship for Linux (x86_64, aarch64) and macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel). On Windows it runs inside WSL.
