What is Literacy Arcade ?

Literacy Arcade is a free, science of reading–aligned platform for K–5 teachers, reading interventionists, tutors, and parents — with interactive games and teacher tools that support phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. The tools are designed around how reading instruction actually works.

The standout teacher tools are the Oral Reading Fluency Calculator, Phoneme Counter + Letterbox Builder, and Repeated Reading games.

The ORF Calculator guides live reading assessments from start to finish. Teachers start the timer, listen as the student reads, log missed words, and get instant WCPM, accuracy, Hasbrouck & Tindal norm comparisons, and printable/PDF reports.

The Phoneme Counter + Letterbox Builder helps teachers count phonemes, map graphemes to phonemes in Elkonin boxes, then either teach the lesson live on screen with drag-and-drop interaction or print it out.

The Repeated Reading games track rate, accuracy, and prosody across multiple reads, with the timer and scoring math built right into the game.

Beyond the teacher tools, Literacy Arcade includes ready-to-play games and teacher-configurable practice activities. Some games, like Spellbound for phonics-based spelling and Word Wizard Quest for Wordle-style word solving, are ready to play instantly with no setup.

Others, like Phonemic Awareness Balloon Pop, Read & Race, Reading Word Spinner, and Digital Reading Flashcards, are configured by the teacher and then played by students in class, on a SmartBoard, in small groups, or independently.

Customizable tools come preloaded with Fry words, Dolch words, phonics-skill word lists, and custom word list options. Vocabulary Flashcards include preloaded Lexile vocabulary across general, math, science, and social studies, with the option to add custom words and definitions.

Most tools work instantly with no account. Optional Google sign-in lets teachers save configured activities and reopen them from a personal dashboard.
