LMMS is an incredibly powerful suite of tools for producing music. However, the tag "Audio Recording" is misleading. In fact, the LMMS user manual says "LMMS can't edit recorded sounds, nor can LMMS record sound." The manual recommends Audacity "for recording and editing audio". LMMS can record notes from a MIDI keyboard, but not an audio signal.

Doesn't work well with MIDI files. The documentation specifically states that.

So far, this is the only open source DAW I can find that is 100% free and can be installed on your computer easily. It does have its limitations compared to other free DAWs, but it has the basics for making music: MIDI sequencing and editing, support for VST instruments and effects, nice built-in synths, a built-in SF2 player, an audio mixer, the ability to import audio files, and automation editing.

The learning curve for LMMS is steep, though, but it's still a great free DAW to use if you're a hobbyist and/or you want to challenge yourself with the DAW's limitations.

It’s an incredibly versatile and user-friendly platform for music production. It has a rich array of tools and features, and though I’m a beginner I’m sure it’s also a good tool for experienced producers.

Some random crashes tarnish the experience. I think it can be improved but at to this moment, as a musician (hobby, not pro) I use it.
