New edition 2025. https://www.minitool.com/backup/system-backup.html . Syncing, Cloning, and Backup. Very good for the average home user with easy preset filters, likely too limited for the power user. "Wake on file change" seems to be a paid feature (FreeFileSync has it free). Sync files are kept in native format (backup feature uses proprietary format). The sync experience is nicely sorted (photos, documents, etc) vs having to make filters. If you are more of a power user, you will likely find the sync option too limiting.. for instance, you can't sync from the folder Appdata, though you can do a backup which puts files in proprietary format. Next step "up" for power users is likely GoodSync, which has some primary filters and 100 files free per day limits, but not categories. The free version ShadowMaker Backup supports bare metal restore if you make bootable media. Sync destination folder can't be edited, so tie down your drive letters if they aren't. Version 4.8 released in 2025 has 64bit. Installer detects your system for 32 or 64bit
I tried to use it for system backup, and it just did not work. The software is janky and unreliable. Sometimes it would backup and other times you're left with an empty screen or a red icon.
You can add backups unless you do it via the wrong add button. Some options look like low quality .JPGs. I trust my HP printer more than this software, and it recently asked me for my home address just to scan a document.
If you need a system backup, use Paragon Backup Free or Macrium Reflect instead.
Displays a pop-up on every boot saying I didn't do any backups recently and there is no way to disable these. The app is also not present on the "startup apps" list in the Task Manager so it shouldn't even be starting up.
MalwareBytes Windows Firewall Control seems to stop them.
