Murena is an interesting alternative to Google Drive as it does provide an online office suite, file storage and email. Coming from /e/OS and being powered by Nextcloud, it's one of those alternatives that you have a lot of hope for and really want to succeed.

First off, I do use it, and here's my good points.

  • The environment is very easy to navigate
  • Plenty of apps available in the workspace
  • In addition, has diverse productivity tools
  • Easy to connect to if you have a desktop version of OnlyOffice installed.
  • There is a News aggregator (like Google Reader) baked in. You can download the News app on your phone and keep it all in sync.

Now for the bits I don't like:

  • The News aggregator can be a bit buggy at times and old items can re-appear
  • Has been suffering stability issues this year

Interesting timing with this review, is that I've experienced the longest outage ever. It started on 6th Oct 2024 and "services" have been restored as of 25th Oct 2024. Meaning that not all the apps of the workspace are back yet.

So far, I'm missing my files, photos and videos apps, and my news reader 😭. It's not clear what is planned for the productivity suite of the workspace, but an outage lasting this long is not ideal, hence it only gets 3 stars.
