n8n is fantastic ! The n8n is not an alternative to Zapier. It's a much more powerful, customizable and suitable solution for demanding users who want to save time. There are a large number of integrations. Finally, the n8n is hosted locally and therefore protects your informations !

n8n has made developing and troubleshooting complex workflows very easy. I really appreciate the intuitive, approachable interface and that I can self-host it.

Compared to Shuffle:

Pros:

  • Much better performance, both in startup times and workflow execution
  • The data flow seems much more intuitive (each node takes in the previous node's input)
  • You can run the graph nodes sequentially as you build the workflow, which helps you follow the data model
  • Seems much better polished in general

It-depends:

  • Nodes (modules) are written as Node.js modules, and are not isolated via containers (presumably better performance, but worse process isolation)
  • Community-created nodes are distributed via npm, not managed centrally - caveat emptor applies, vet your modules

Cons:

  • Fewer nodes out of the box
  • Free version has limitations that you might not want to have in production (one user account, no log forwarding, etc)
  • Lacks Shuffle's automagic OpenAPI spec import
