Unlike its Windows version the Linux version is quite amazing and not bloated at all, if all free alternatives fail try this.
After the deinstallation of Nero there are still over 50 entries in the systems registry (regedit), which one must delete separately.

I very much liked Nero 5 back in the old days and still use it on a derilect W2000 machine. I had been using Nero 8 to some extent but for limited usage as the software had become too awkward to use. Complex sequences and at the end of a sequence you were left with antiquated user interface styles. Nero Vision stopped working on my Nero 8 installation and I thought it might be hardware, no I tried to install on another computer. Of course, I got a message that I could not. The email link to support didnt work and so I did it manually. Unfortunatley, I got a reply back in "some sort of english". The reply used english words entirely but the syntax made no sense whatsoever. In the end, I purchase a Nero 11 but Ouch, what a mistake! Even more awkward to use than Nero 8. Germans seem to have this capaicity to over-complicate software to the nth degree without making it more functional but rather less functional. Take .AVG for example, or Adobe Acrobat and I even tried the simplest of Adobe read/writers. Ouch. why would anyone use such junk.
I'm going to say that this is a great software, even though I encountered a trillion problems with it. Contradiction much? For the price, it is not worth it. Not even Nero Linux 4 is worth it.
I'm still confused as to why people still use this. InfraRecorder works a lot better, isn't nearly as bloated, and is free/open source. Nero was the best before Open Source developers had come up with a viable alternative. Nowadays, that's just no the case.
I used to use this, but its way too bloated and slows down your boot time. Plus that bloody animated logo thing on bootup is annoying. Make the switch to something else, I use cdburnerxp now
