It's not a perfect match for privacy (can't win with Firefox), but after hardening by some proper extensions and forgetting that it's not open source - it's my guilty pleasure browser. Cool design, cool sidebar and few options that makes it better than a classic Opera (like customization or dark mode).
just got bought by the chinese and it's pretty bloated and very much spyware. i like the style but if you like it that much just use FirefoxGX. it's not a "gaming" browser it's just your "cool looking" browser, that's like saying you prefer SuperMinecraftCoolInstallar3053FreeLaunch over LLauncher because it has RGB on it.
How to easily discard this as an option:
Randomly asks the user for Firewall permissions. If you're one of those Windows users that installs everything with elevated-rights, more-likely you had never seen this awful behaviour by any Opera flavour. You shall never install any web browser as admin unless IT administrative scenarios.
Also every time it gets updated it keeps the previous versions stored, so yeah, eventually you end-up with a lot of storage being used by those and have to manually delete them.
(NOTE: I have not tried this browser, nor will I ever try it in the future. I'm just branching off my Opera review.)
I understand that Opera GX was made to be the gaming browser for everyone, but this really isn't for me of course.
But here's the problem (and this goes for all of Opera's browsers too, not just GX): given that GX in particular is a widely popular choice, a majority are forgetting about Opera's major privacy-invasiveness since it's owned by a Chinese consortium since 2016.
Unless you care about privacy, this is the perfect browser for all your resource-reducing and gaming needs. If you do care, though, then...
While the browser is kind of controversial nowadays, i have been using this browser for a long time and i honestly love it, however if you care about your privicy on the internet then use firefox if not, then this browser might be for you if you are into gaming.
Based on Chromium, most likely spies on your browsing (like regular Opera).

The only reason I'm giving it a 2 is because 1. it has good features and 2. I haven't 100% confirmed that Opera GX spies on you (but it's really likely. ill be doing some tests later)
I think that's just a hoax, Opera is not spyware i believe.
Opera's spying on users is easily provable, and there's conflict of interest all over its ownership. The browser itself is a giant hoax.
Opera GX is one of my favorites!
