I had their 2012 free program. It worked fine. I only do simple backing up and restoring. No schedules, etc. Then I went to their 2014 version. There was a later version, but I tried it and returned to the 2014 version. For Windows 8.1. For Windows 10 a later version must be better. It worked well. Compressed well. I got small files around 6 or 8 Gb for fresh Windows 8.1 installations. Windows 10 is bloatware, so I can't yet say how much space it will take up. Will go to their website for another free program today. As the 2014 version seems outdated.
Unable to create a valid schedule. The app comes up with choices regarding frequency and retention that have nothing to do with what I selected. Their forum is full of comments like this. Absolutely no response from their tech support. Requested and received my money back. Miserable software. Move along; nothing to see here.
Probably the only fully featured free system backup for Windows. The interface is simple, it supports all kinds of backups, scheduling and can boot from a flash drive to restore your system.
The free version is called "Community Edition". It's a bit hard to find on their website, though. https://www.paragon-software.com/us/free/br-free/
The best under the free solutions. Has incremental backup and and selective restore of folders, great!

User Friendly but no scheduling or automatic cleanup of backups
The "Backup & Recovery 16 Free" version don't run anymore under Windows 7
Paragon Backup & Recovery Free 2011 (german) has 2 important disadvantages:
Macrium Reflect Free is able to do scheduled backups on each 2nd Monday of a month, but it also cannot cleanup old backups automatically.
If you need a backup application, which has none of the 2 mentioned disadvantages, you must buy a commercial backup solution, e.g. Acronis True Image Home Edition.
