The last version is enterprise-ready, and support is pretty much what you pay for, you can also package it with your own theme, and is a fully white-label product

Pretty easy to use. Has native apps. And optional paid features if you are interested but unless you are a business you really dont need the enterprise stuff.

Hosting a rocketchat instance is painful. None of the deployment methods seem to be properly maintained and the documentation is flawed. Software quality seems to have only degraded within the last two years with many important bug tickets and PRs on github ignored for years rendering documented features (e.g. invite links) unusable.

I assume that few people are running a recent version from the 4.5 series; I have no other explanation for the amount of positive reviews here.

Simple to deploy and use, pluggable through its interface with many other online services. Rights are easily managable.

What is Rocket.Chat?

Rocket.Chat is a Web Chat Server developed using JavaScript and the Meteor fullstack framework. It offers a privately hosted chat service for communities and companies, and a platform for developers to create their own chat platforms. Features include video conferencing, helpdesk chat, file sharing, voice messages, and instant link content viewing with support for YouTube, Twitter, and Gifs.

The platform integrates with services like GitHub, GitLab, JIRA, and Confluence through an API. Users can add new packages to implement features. It has native applications for Linux, Windows, OSX, iOS, and Android.

Other features are BYOS, multiple rooms, direct messages, private groups, public channels, desktop notifications, mentions, avatars, markdown, emojis, transcripts/history, internationalization with Lingohub, Hubot integration, media embeds through Iframely Responsive Web Embeds, link previews, LDAP authentication, REST-full APIs, and remote locations video monitoring. A native cross-platform desktop application is also available.
