What is ShellCanvas?

ShellCanvas is a free, open-source desktop application that brings remote files, terminal sessions and a text editor into a graphical workspace over SSH. Each connected host has its own workspace with movable windows. The interface runs locally and does not require a ShellCanvas agent on the remote host.

Features include saved SSH hosts, file transfers, multiple terminal sessions, a text editor, themes, and installable apps from GitHub with permission review. Full file operations use SFTP; limited fallbacks are available for compatible hosts without SFTP.

Built with Rust, Tauri 2 and React, ShellCanvas is licensed under MPL-2.0. Windows, Linux and macOS packages are available. It is an early preview, with the most hands-on testing on Windows and further cross-platform testing ongoing.
