MAGIX Vegas Pro cost 599$ but so many persons crack it. It is a good video editing software but it is only for Windows and developed using the Microsoft Dotnet framework. It provides many effect but I think you should ponder before start using it. If you want a free alternative of this software, I recommend kdenlive.
Their pricing model went "subscription", like adobe. They got greedy. Problem is, it's not such a good product. Stay away from greedy companies like this, there are much cheaper alternatives, even free ones.
Used it for quite a long time. First version that I used was Vegas Pro 11, then I switched to 13, then 15 and this is where my journey with this app ends.
After I upgraded my GPU, this editing software starts inverting colors for some reason. The fix was easy, just to downgrade GPU driver, but this is not what I wanted.
Besides that, Vegas Pro supports custom plugins like Boris Continuum, Sapphire and others. Those plugins are game changers for this software, but for my personal use case, this turns out to be an overkill.
Now I do my editing projects in Kdenlive, and I don't think I will go back to VP.
What I recommend to use? Kdenlive will be a good choice over VP. It has many features Vegas have, it's FOSS and cross-platform. For more professional work, probably Adobe, but only because there is no good alternative for it in professional sphere, and supports Boris plugins as well.
Can't import all types of video containers, like .mkv, .webm, which you can do on kdenlive. Still good for those who have used it since the early releases.
The era of Vegas is over, unless they want to change it.
I find the UI, media file compatibility, and hardware versatility second to none.
Waiting for dark theme can't wait!
Probably the Best Non Linear Editor available, not only is fast and really uses the GPU correctly it's also amazingly quality, it render 16 bits and 32 bits color space in video if the source material have it, previously owned by Sony now sold to Magix, I do hope Magix don't destroy it, while I think other Magix apps like Video Pro X is easy to use and fast with a good proxy file support, it's no way near with the quality of Vegas, transitions, color rendering and frame smoothing and motion blur are WAY SUPERIOR on Vegas, half of this options are not even present on Magix Video Pro X, only on Vegas, really is a professional quality Editor!
