Below is my 2017 review of Bear, privacy concerns and all. A particularly vocal critic of my view seems to imply that my criticism is against the Italian origins of the Bear app. Even a cursory reading of what I wrote will show this is not the case. I have nothing against Italians. I was merely imploring the potential customers of Bear to consider that their data might be subject to Italian law, about which most will know very little.

Wrote a positive comment on Mozilla Firefox as an alternative to Google ChromeChrome is closed-source and part of Google's privacy-invading business model, which works by harvesting user data. Firefox is open source, so you can check what it's doing under the good. It's also more configurable (about:config) and its Nov 2017 update made it faster than its competitors.

Slack is nothing like as secure or private because they don't build in such encryption. Other encrypted products in this space are Stackfield and Peerio.
Liked SemaphorThe whole point of iDrive, Tresorit, SpiderOak and Sync.com is that they offer a zero-knowledge model based on encryption which prevents even the company from viewing user files. iCloud is NOT like that; files stored with iCloud can be viewed by Apple, subpoenad by the US govt and stolen in readable format by hackers. Go with encryption if you value your privacy.
