Best alternative there is for file explorer. Most of other alternative offers only a 2-panel display which is convenient sometimes, but most of the time not, the other display option is a progressive panel which is really great. Lots of options. Just hope dev can continue.
Very good points as of 2018, the good news is One Commander has implemented all of these requests as of version 3.44.1.0 (6-1-2023) Can't middle-click on a folder to open a new tab • Now Works Can't middle-click on the folder breadcrumbs to open a new tab • Now Works Can't reopen a closed tab (
Very pretty with Miller's Columns (like a Mac) but one must beware of shortcuts acting upon items that aren't where the keyboard focus is (and that's from their support people). So that extremely dangerous UI choice, along with the sliding doors approach to the shape-shifting columns, makes this app too annoying and scary to rely upon for me. Edit (060824): Those Miller's Columns were too enticing for me not to give it a second chance. Found enough customization to make it obvious where the focus is ("marching ants") and now I'm quite confident using the app. Would have come to this conclusion earlier if the support folks had provided better advice (and if I had taken the time to RTFM in detail). Edit (062024): Using a keyboard to navigate the Miller's Columns remains, unfortunately, a confusingly dangerous cluster---- of "where's the focus?". Perhaps if I abandon the Columns mode, might the focus issues go away? *sigh* Why is it so hard for developers to use the UI standards in Apple's Finder? Must they constantly reinvent the wheel? Edit (010225): Switched in July to the "double-list" view where keyboard navigation provides more consistency (or, at least, less confusion that Miller's Columns mode). Gave it an add'l star which is good considering I give File Explorer only one star. The app does lock up its UI while copying files from the app to a File Explorer window but this isn't a killer issue as, once completed, everything works as you expect.
I use this app everyday to manage a database of over 800 PDF artworks. The color coding for file age is especially helpful. It also has a seamless integration with Teracopy for moving/copying files safely.
Interface is pretty good, but quite slow for what should be very simple actions. Also the right click menu is a bit weird.
The best interface among all the file explorer i tested. Love it. Except the fact that the application freezes sometimes when i try to copy paste files for backup.
Switching from MacOS to Windows? Finder is still so far away better than File Explorer... so very useful is One Commander with its easy interface and especially with columns view.
