Much more useful and powerful than its competitors. You can do editing, sound design, simple visual effects, and advanced compositing all in one program. (if you are thinking about designimg complex 2D animation, this is not the right program for you.)

DaVinci Resolve, touted as Emmy award winning video editor, isn't even capable of importing MKV files in 2020. You'll have to convert all your MKV files into DVR friendly DNxHD codec/format as mentioned here , in order to even import them. No, Thank you!

DaVinci Resolve has been fantastic for making simple YouTube videos just for fun. It’s completely free, and after watching a few online tutorials, I was able to jump in and get videos edited quickly. The software is huge, and mastering every single tab will definitely take time, but you don’t need to know everything to get great results. The learning curve is 100% worth it.

I can't really review DVR on its functions or merits because after multiple attempts over multiple years across multiple Linux installs and major version revisions, one thing about it has remained consistent: it will not import or read the vast majority of media properly, if at all.

Despite every effort in troubleshooting this particular issue, it does not seem to support h.264 or h.265, MP4 or MKV despite what some people will tell you. I have no idea what format(s) it DOES support or if I can even make use of the other software I have available to transcode into such a format because every thread I've seen discussing this issue has devolved into the same go-nowhere solutions that never work for anyone and a bunch of elitist arguing about file formats while offering zero guidance in what formats WILL work with this POS software.

Add onto this the "give us your full legal name and home address" level of intrusiveness required to even download the free version of the program and it genuinely feels like a scam. If there is any halfway decent video production software available for Linux, this ain't it.

While it technically has Linux support, I could not get it to work because it relied on packages that have updated versions, and the amount of workarounds needed after that only got worse.
