Hoodik

Hoodik is a self-hosted cloud storage server with a Vue 3 web frontend and native mobile apps. Files, file names, and search queries are encrypted on your device before they reach the server. The server only ever stores ciphertext, so it cannot read your files even if it is compromised. The cryptographic engine is written in Rust and compiled to WebAssembly for the browser and to native bindings for mobile, so every platform runs the same auditable codebase.

The default symmetric cipher is AEGIS-128L, a hardware-accelerated AEAD that outperforms AES-GCM on modern CPUs. File keys are wrapped with a post-quantum hybrid of X25519 and ML-KEM-768, and login uses OPAQUE, so your password never leaves your device. Search queries are never sent in plaintext: file names are tokenized with a BERT model and hashed with SHA-256 before upload, and the server matches those hashes. Public link sharing places a per-link key in the URL fragment, so the file key never reaches the server or anyone other than the recipient.

Storage backends are pluggable. By default Hoodik writes encrypted chunks to local disk, and it also supports any S3-compatible service (AWS S3, Backblaze B2, Wasabi, Cloudflare R2, MinIO). The database is SQLite by default and switches to PostgreSQL with a single environment variable. The whole server idles at around 20 MB of RAM and ships as a single multi-arch Docker image (amd64, arm64, armv7, armv6), so it runs on a Raspberry Pi or any small machine.

Hoodik also ships an encrypted markdown notes editor with version history. It is a self-hosted alternative to Obsidian Sync or Notion for users who want their notes encrypted end to end. Native apps are live on all three stores: iOS and macOS on the App Store, Android on Google Play. All three are free.
