It borrows its foundations from the privacy-violating Ubuntu, and it was hacked in 2016: hackers created jeaopardized versions on its site. Mint? No. Try Manjaro. Or Debian. Or OpenSuse. Or Fedora. Mint has nothing left. It's a cartoon of a cartoon.

    Debian is open source, rock-solid and popular, particularly for servers, though desktops too. It uses the .deb package system; Manjaro doesn't. Manjaro is Arch-based. But Manjaro also works out-of-the-box in 95% of cases for me. Setting up Debian has always been a pain in the behind. But maybe that's just me. But try it. Might work for you.

    Sure, Fedora could replace Manjaro. You'd have to switch to an .rpm software package system and accept a smaller software repository than AUR. On the plus side, that software will be better vetted for security. Fedora's default desktop is Gnome 3, so chances are you'll want to install something different once it's up.
