First release was from end of september 2025 I don't see how this Mac utility can have 23k stars without suspicious activity

A few notes that may help:

  • Mole started as a free open-source Mac CLI. The Mac app came later. Most stars are on the CLI repo
  • Growth was gradual across releases, HN / community shares, and a lot of word of mouth, not one spike
  • BleachBit is a great project, but it's a different audience and platform mix, so the star counts aren't really one-to-one

What is Mole?

Mole is a macOS cleanup and maintenance toolkit with two parts that share the same safety idea: show you what will be removed before anything is deleted.

The Mole CLI is free and open source (GPL-3.0). It cleans caches and leftovers, uninstalls apps with related files, explores disk usage, runs maintenance tasks, and shows live CPU, memory, disk, and network stats in the terminal. Dry-run and whitelist options help you stay in control.

Mole for Mac is the native GUI ($19 one-time for 2 Macs, lifetime updates, 14-day refund). It covers Clean, Software (updates and uninstall leftovers), Optimize, Analyze, and Status, plus a menu bar. Scanning is free; you review the list before acting. Local-only, no subscription, not on the Mac App Store.
