Simply perfect for me. It's a super comprehensive document scanner. You can customise the scan dimensions according to the profile, and customise them directly for each new scan. The same goes for the resolution.

There is no need to save the new scan immediately, as you have to do with the built-in W* tool, and if you close the application abruptly, you can "recover" it either via the settings or if you close it via the task manager.

I did notice, however, that there is no preview before scanning the document (fortunately, it is possible to do a quick scan at very low resolution).

I also noticed a difference in scanning between my HP 240 G7 Notebook PC and my Inspiron 7706 2-in-1. On the first one, even a high resolution does not give a good result, whereas on the second one it does.

No doubt the PC responsible for the scan is important for its quality, for example in terms of the specifications/characteristics of the components, but I don't know enough about that.

EDIT : Not issues between my both PC.

I also noticed a difference in scanning. When changing the ‘Page Size’, you must first use the ‘Scan’ button under the Profile settings before you can use the one in the toolbar.

Simple workhorse for normal scanning stuff

Works with Xerox WorkCentre 3025 on Mac 14.4.1 Sonoma despite Xerox's own and Apple's general scanner drivers not working.

After scanning the pages, it allows for great customization. Allows you to reorder, rotate; change brightness, sharpness, hue etc. of individual pages (page edit options accessed from the fullscreen icon).

Has a preview of the pages before you save it as a PDF.

Can also choose an existing PDF to start scanning onto, all the page customization options also work for pre-existing pages in that PDF.

Additionally, it is a FOSS, which is the icing on an already beautiful cake.

Its the only scanner application that works for me. better than the manufacturers software by far.

This tool is a must in every enterprise. With the latest update (7.3.0.0), you can share local scanners among computers in the same LAN (note that it's the best to use the portable version to do the said sharing.)

Very simple and streamlined, for some reason the latest release on the website and github is from 2019, however the developer(s) are updating with prelease/beta versions so it is indeed in active development.

I can see some potential improvements to be made and if it continues will be the best File scanner out there if it isn't already.

What is NAPS2?

Scan with a single click

Easily scan with your chosen settings, or set up multiple profiles for different devices and configurations. Once you've finished scanning, you can save, email, or print with only a couple clicks. Save to PDF, TIFF, JPEG, PNG, or other file types.

Compatible with both WIA and TWAIN

Choose the driver that works best with your scanner, as well as settings like DPI, page size, and bit depth. Scan from a glass flatbed or an automatic document feeder (ADF), including duplex support.

Rotate, crop, and rearrange scanned images

Order your pages however you like, including tools to interleave duplexed pages. Easily rotate your pages at right angles, or straighten them at any angle you like. Use image editing tools to crop or change brightness and contrast.

Identify text using OCR

Search through text included in your PDFs by using optical character recognition (OCR), in any of over 60 languages.

Use NAPS2 in your native language

Choose from over 20 different languages. If your language isn't available yet, help translate!

Tools for power users and businesses

  • Optional command-line interface (CLI) for automation and scripting
