Very easy to use, and I'm not savvy with video editors. I just want to perform the basics like splitting, fade in, fade out. This does so much more. I'm looking forward to learning it all. It works on Windows 10 great. My laptop is new, so no worries there. Great editor.
It's still in alpha.
The stable version (0.1) is unsupported due to self-professed lack of resources, while the supported version (0.2) is unstable. Talk about choosing between the 'devil' and the 'deep sea'.
Stay away, until it crosses beta. Unless you have that risk appetite.
I know that but now it is not crashing before it was but I must say that it has improved a lot
I've just stuck to using version 0.1 whenever I feel like editing with Olive Video Editor because it's the most stable.
Olive is a decent video editor for beginners, but have bugs which need to be fixed in the future.
im a total video editor plebian noob and was able to do a simple edit. the goal was to mark a video to call out a game bug in a game im playing. had to extract a frame, anotate the frame and reinsert the anotated frame for a set duration. even a noob like me was able to do that. also nad to trim the excess footage. its also light weight with the current portable version weighing in at under 100 MB (i used version: 617ff876)
Very promising, Olive has lots of potential as a video editor, though keep in mind it is still in an alpha state, and it shows. UI is nice, too.
It's a good editor in general, very powerful, but it's full of bugs, which for me makes it unusable.
I really wish I could recommend this as a marvelous video editor for everyone to use, but unfortunately it is riddled with bugs, largely due to the fact that it is still in alpha, and it seems that development is fairly slow, with a final release or, heck, even a beta release being far off into the future. If you're able to get past the bugs and adjust to them, then you'll find a fantastic yet admittedly not very feature-rich open-source video editor. Olive uses similar, or perhaps even the same, key binds that Adobe Premiere Pro uses, making it a great program to use if you would like to start learning video editing or are moving to Linux and in need of video editing software similar to something you may have used before. I find the workflow to be fantastic here and far better than that of other FOSS video editors like KdenLive and Shotcut. Overall, this is a fine piece of software that, no doubt, could become great in due time. Note: I recommend downloading version 0.1, as it is far more stable than Olive's nightly builds.
