What is OnionShare?

OnionShare is an open-source platform for secure, anonymous file sharing, website hosting, and communication via the Tor network. It works by creating local web servers on your computer, which are accessible to others as Tor onion services. OnionShare automatically secures generated web addresses with a random password. Users must securely share these URLs, which recipients can input into their Tor Browser to access the service. OnionShare requires an active internet connection to function and is most effective for real-time interactions.
