The new update has it so that it is basically an all-around better version of discord without the price tag
Revolt is a semi open source application meaning it contains some components to the application which are specifically closed source. The self hostable version is not up to date being the same version as the main instance is & is stripped of features due to those features being proprietary such as the admin control panel, automod platform moderation, server discovery, & built in imgur replica.
Many users online have written bad reviews of their experience in multiple webpages stating that the platform staff engages in many unethical behaviors including taking action out of prejudice. The staff is a majority of underage youths who are lead by adults exploiting the youths for their coding contributions.
Although the functionality of customization is nice this application is a decent one it's the people behind it & their intentions which have hindered the growth & created a false positive recognition while attempting to sweep the bad press under the rug.
If your looking to use this as a self-hosting alternative know that you will be completely on your own if you run into any trouble. The staff will not support any issues when it comes to self hosting they want users to not self host & stay on their instance even though they made it self hostable because the userbase for revolt is small.
Do you have a source for this? Particularly the claim about young devs being exploited by their elder contributers? While I wouldn't be surprised, I'm hesitant to believe that with no source since there are many cases of genuine good-faith collaboration between adults and youths being interpreted as being exploitative.

Stoat is one of the apps that I've been waiting for, for quite some time now. While I haven't personally noticed some of the underlying problems others have mentioned, Stoat is still (IMO) early into its development, and as we've already begun to see polishing, and feature drops that are stable. I am waiting for video features, like share screening, but that has already been confirmed to be weeks out. As they've already have it ready, but are waiting to improve their infrastructure, hopefully they will make an easier way to donate in app as well.
a little brokey, can be quite buggy overtime and have a goofy ass broken mobile app, but however is a pretty good alternative over discord, it's friendly to use, and all the features are free.
those who's fleeing from Discord, please be aware Stoat team was out of emails yesterday (11.02.26), but today it seems to be ok again. if you didn't receive a confirmation email, please give it a chance and wait a little bit U_U 人
If you're fleeing Discord, you're a moron. The worst that could happen is you're not allowed in an 'adult content' channel IF they ask you to prove your age, and you don't.
They made a news release yesterday saying that they likely already know how old you are, because that's how the internet works behind the scenes these days. If they need to verify your age, they'll verify your age, and delete your proof from their servers. Also, you don't HAVE to provide proof. As I said, you just won't be able to get in to NSFR channels or whatever.
Personally, I've never ever used Discord to look for NSFR content.. but whatever floats your boat.

No reason to flee Discord? Discord leaked 70k ID's in October previous year. Used to verify age in UK and Australia.
Discord movements are a danger to global privacy constant veryfing age by AI through searching messages in servers. In nowadays you can get banned caused you just typed that "i have 10 years old" in some part of joke or someone edited message that you have this "10 years".
Support of Discord that we know by few years non exist; Replaced just by bots that can't recognize context of talk.
NSFW content is not that big deal of that for existence of Discord, but AI but breaking the privacy of the conversation by constantly acting and AI checking if the person writing is definitely an adult is a turning point for many to distance themselves from this platform
Don't pay attention to what James Long said - Discord in all honesty is less safer then what it was until they dropped this new form of Age Verification You need to leave Discord - Discord is done: There is so many flaws into the system it's not even funny - it has created a pathway to endanger children, as well as adults. Adults are pressured to release their face and Government ID to a third party called K-ID which disclaims in their privacy policy that they disclose and may sell your information to third parties which they are all the more not even fully protecting children.
Discord also works with these third parties to get information about you from multiple sources, including government/state sources. So if you had a speeding ticket when driving within a county/city/state in the USA which 90% of those incidents end up being reported to the public news articles and feeds - Discord is gonna find it. If you have ever shared private information between users in discord (e.g. with your family/ or spouse/fiancé) like a driver's license or other important information. guess what? Discord is going to be reading all past communications in private to find out if you have ever disclosed information that could be used to identify you and your age.
There is 0 Privacy in Discord, anything you say and do on Discord will be made known to anyone requesting it. So if you or your fiancé/partner was/is on a trip and you're at home or completely across the world and Discord is your main choice of communication be careful on what you say because Discord will see that. What is worse is that the new age verification grouping system method that they are using is dangerous, imagine all users will be defaulted to unverified status and get thrown into the minor/kid zone, adults would be required to use either face recognition to see if you're an adult or send a Government ID which enables you to be a potential victim of identity theft which can be used to destroy your life, and adults who don't want to fork over their private info risking becoming a victim of Identify theft, will be forced to communicate closer along side minors when in public servers which in my opinion is highly uncomfortable considering how some teens are - they are just rebels and want to get into adult topics that is not legal for them yet.
We all know that millions of people's IDs were stolen, Discord is not safe.
