it's powerful, but too expensive for me. I use BetterRecorder now, it's free.
every once in a while new version of screenflow is created and the old one is obsoleted with no support. I've so far paid for 1.0, 3.0 and 4.0. When it appeared in app store, I thought I will be able to upgrade, but it was removed from App store and new one is not posted. As much as I like the software, the company behind it is a greedy bunch which tries to milk it's users instead of getting new users.
It's very basic but include a lot of tools that beginners will love along with the ease of use. It's much simpler than iMovie, allows for simple transitions, video effects, has a built in screen recorder, and a very simple UI. My only complaint is that it doesn't have that many features if you're super heavy in editing.
I don't know how Screenflow gets away with charging $100 for its application. I mean, it's a good app (probably the best recording app I've seen for Mac OS X), but $100 is just ridiculous. Maybe I'd pay $20 for it, but that would probably be my limit.
Normally there are two reasons for a piece of Software to prevail with such an expensive price: 1- There are no other alternatives (either cheaper either free) 2- People are so used to it that don't risk to change since it could mean to teach everyone to the new application (this happens, for example, in Photoshop - there are free alternatives but designers are too much accustomed to it)
