Creating PDF with Free Softmaker TextMaker is excellent drag and drop images :D :D ... cannot do that with OO/LO I cannot fault Free Softmaker TextMaker PDF results Fonts are totally stable and reproduce exactly (Softmaker's FlexiPDF is beta, and requires a lot of fine tuning before I will consider it)

Optional MenuBar (laptop) is also brilliant, ribbons are real estate hogs. IMO best of all the alternative office products ... almost. OO and LO seem to stumbling, their Writer to PDF is very unstable/unpredictable

Despite being a truly free office suite, FreeOffice requires an online license activation.

I'm fine with developers asking me to supply my e-mail address or set up an account to obtain the software. But online activation is definitely a step too far – one of my main reasons for looking for free software alternatives is exactly so I don't have to put up with crap like that… (Excuse the language, but no gentler terms seem appropriate for that kind of mechanism.)

Oct 2025 and I've just run into the license activation begging-for-email box for FREE software. It's long past time developers stopped using their products as an underhand license to advertise at you.

It's a pretty good office suite. I own the paid version and used it for a long time for its good compatibility with Microsoft office formats, but I don't see its appeal anymore, since better free and open source alternatives exist now (Onlyoffice and Libreoffice).

Its text processor plus tables occupy 182 Mb. I could not center an image in it. Could not find a method. Any controls that I used did not produce results.

Opens fast, runs well, nice, simple UI. Great basic office suite. Not quite as full-featured as some, but does the job well for the vast majority of use cases in my experience.

Suspicious Asian software. Not recommended. Bloated, with very suspicious stuff installed in the system. I had serious problems with its deletion - the uninstallation process took about 15 minutes in my Windows 10 with suddenly appearing terminal windows and similar creepy stuff.

Excellente suite bureautique alternative aux grands classique. J'apprécie particulièrement sa version Androïd qui est similaire en tout point à son itération desktop dans son interface.

The package SoftMaker Office Professional includes additional

an Email-client; a Duden spell checker; two Duden dictionaries; BasicMaker, a Win32-only VBA-like programming tool; four Langenscheidt dictionaries.

SoftMaker Office has many functions of the correspondent programs from MS Office, OpenOffice.org or WordPerfect Office and also adds features such as its ability to run off USB flash drives and integrated reference works. It uses not only its own native formats, but is also highly compatible with Microsoft Office file formats. It can read and write Microsoft Office file formats as well as OpenDocument Format (word processor only), RTF and HTML. Export to PDF function is included. Multi-language spell-checking, hyphenation and thesaurus is supported; furthermore an integrated five-language translation dictionary (English, German, French, Italian, and Spanish).
