What is Sterna Mail?

Sterna Mail is a private, native Android email client built for JMAP, the faster successor to IMAP, with full support for classic IMAP/SMTP too. You pick the protocol when you add an account, so it works with JMAP servers like Stalwart as well as any standard mail provider.

It needs no Google services at all: push notifications arrive over JMAP EventSource, IMAP IDLE or UnifiedPush rather than Firebase. Remote images and tracking pixels are blocked by default, credentials are encrypted with the Android KeyStore, and OpenPGP is supported through OpenKeychain on both JMAP and IMAP/SMTP.

Other features include a unified inbox across multiple accounts, shared and delegated mailboxes, conversation threading, offline access through a local cache, search with filters, multiple identities with their own signatures, undo send, schedule send, snooze, a server-side vacation responder and Sieve filter rules.

It is free software under the GPLv3, distributed on F-Droid with reproducible builds, and available in nine languages.
