The Feature “Works Offline” is a lie.

In their FAQs, they write this: “““ All your notes are stored securely encrypted on Dictanote servers. We do not store or process any of your audio. We rely on Chrome's speech to text API to convert audio to text. ”””

mdn(https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/SpeechRecognition) says this: “““ On some browsers, like Chrome, using Speech Recognition on a web page involves a server-based recognition engine. Your audio is sent to a web service for recognition processing, so it won't work offline. ”””

Together, that means that the app itself may launch offline and buffer data while the service behind it is offline, but the central feature of speech recognition requires an internet connection to Google.

Dictanote is a software for note-taking through typing and voice commands, offering dictation and transcription services. It is compatible with over 40 languages and 52 dialects, serving more than 80% of the global population. The software also offers a Pro upgrade for multiple notes and cloud storage. Users need Google Chrome version 25 or later, internet connection, a configured microphone, and clear pronunciation. It can be installed from the Chrome Webstore.

Dictanote's Voice Typing feature transcribes speech to text in real time, supporting paragraphs, punctuation, and emoticons via voice commands. The AudioScribe function translates voice notes into summarized text. It transcribes audio notes accurately and reformats the transcript into clear text by adding punctuation, removing filler words, repetitions, and verbal pauses.
