Harvest did everything a time tracking service should, and was reasonable enough in their pricing. This year they quintupled their prices and tried shoving a bunch of bloat features down their user's throats, forcing small businesses off the platform.
I used Harvest for 8 years, and for a long time, it was a fantastic, reliable tool that did exactly what my team needed for time tracking and invoicing. It had a great desktop widget and a fair business model.
Unfortunately, that all ended when the app was acquired by Bending Spoons. One morning, I woke up to an email announcing an absolutely abusive price increase, making the service more than 10 times more expensive than the original price I was paying. They introduced absurd limits to force loyal users into outrageous corporate tiers. This aggressive, private-equity style cash grab completely ruined what made the product great in the first place.
You cannot hold your long-term users hostage just to inflate your revenue. I immediately exported all my company's data and migrated my setup. I am now using Toggl for time tracking and Invoice Ninja for estimates and invoices, and couldn't be happier to be free of this ecosystem.
If you are a small team or developer, stay away. Do not trust them with your data or your workflow, because they will eventually change the rules and price you out overnight.
Superb UX and lovely quiet design, just does exactly what you need then gets out of the way.
