Very complete. Easy, small and simple. One feature to underline is you can print images from it. Strange as it sounds, there's a bunch of good image viewers and editors in linux but astoundingly, many lack that option.
How is this "very complete" when it can't even move images?!
Appears to be discontinued. No release for more than 4 years and open source repository is very quiet.
As of Feb 2025, the repo is quite active but still no new releases (on Github, at least) so you'll need to build from source or use a package manager
Not the case anymore as on Dec 28, 2025 a non-beta release of 3.22.0 has been released. As of this comment, currently on release 3.22.1 published on April 17, 2026
My personal favorite image viewer. Has everything I want from it, simple ui, arrow key navigation, esc to close, and foss. One interesting quirk about it ive noticed is that i don't think nomacs has built in image decoders, it will open anything your os can. But that is an easy fix.
This is the best picture viewer if you're using non-default Windows explorer. I've tried likely every single image viewer programs, and this one is just simple, very fast, lightweight, it covers all my need and habit as casual user. And it got updated in 2026 with sleeker UI!
better than preview. customizable. easy to use. lots of features.
Open source, has all the tools that I need from a image viewer, is lightweight, easy to navigate, fast and simple
Nomics can't organize images - no function to move an image to a directory, for example.
@Brandonator Look for apps in the "photo manager" category if you want that kind of function, don't expect a simple image viewer to handle organizing. Photo manager obviously needs a built-in viewer, but the opposite isn't true.
Very good simplified image editor/cropper. Three requests: 1. pdf cropper ability 2. change the icon.. I am keenly aware of the issues of those struggling with alcohol which is a major epidemic. 3. Thumbnail size options. Thumbnail strip option is too tiny.
