One of few PDF desktop tools which can provide high compression and the only 1 with great control over compression process.
How is it today? Any trojans or bloatwares or adwares injected in updates yet? (In my view after 20 years in this s/w development industry, In no world will anyone will give pdf editors for free, there could be free OS but not free pdf editors especially when company and its creators are anonymous and not reachable)
@software_critic: Agreed, the software is too good to be free, I seen nothing similar, even some of paid alternatives doesn't work these ways. Perhaps, better one after Acrobat Pro. It's suspicious. But on other hand, seems that all of it is preparation for something different, they provides some online features, and user could create an account. Some of them are paid, fax service, for example.
And what did you mean "company and its creators are anonymous"? The company from Legal Notice doesn't exists?
@M_O_Z_G I see today as of April-18-2020 I do see that the company is no more anonymous. The name: Stefan Ziegler is stamped on the About Us page. And I also see now some North American government libraries have started using it. I guess as of my first comment on Jan-2019 the author wanted to remain anonymous so as my hacker mindset was in as there are some app you might know are already there without their authors and you may know what they do with host system and their data. But this app as of today when I type my comment seems clean and without any built-in tracers if downloaded from the author's site.
Also I'd like to add, that the firm behind it is officially registered in the companies register of germany and its listed headquaters are also real. I think its as thrust worthy as it gets for free proprietary programs.
Only basic functions are offline, the rest is online. The file optimization is haywire for solid books scans. During optimization the app had managed to alter a book size from 76MB to 92MB (!!!) on low quality settings, that is the app had implemented anti-optimization!!! The menus are muddy and non-user-friendly. The app occupies 840 MB on HDD - why the size is so huge for plain PDF-Editor??? Gonna use freeware PDF Arranger and NAPS2 instead of this flop.
My app's size is 883MB. That's huge, indeed! Compared to Adobe Acrobat DC file size, which in my case is 1.3 GB, I'm wondering if this is normal.
PDF24 Creator is one of the most complete free PDF tools available for Windows. The virtual printer approach works seamlessly and the included toolset covers merging, splitting, compressing, converting and more. It feels slightly old-school in terms of UI but it gets the job done reliably. The offline-first approach is a plus for anyone who prefers not to upload documents to a cloud service.

The best option I've found so far for editing PDFs. If it were compatible with Linux and open source, it would be perfect.
