Comments and Reviews

Comment summary: Pinta offers a lightweight, intuitive middle ground between basic paint tools and advanced editors such as Krita or GIMP. Users value its Paint.NET-like interface, layers, quick editing, cross-platform availability, and suitability for screenshots and casual work. However, many older reviews report frequent crashes, lost work, slowdowns, and awkward resizing or saving workflows. Recent comments, especially about Pinta 3.0, suggest substantial improvements and better stability.

Pinta 3.0 Basically fixed all my complaints, works flawlessly now, and it's just what i look for, Krita and Gimp are too advanced, and stuff like KolourPaint is too simple, i needed an inbetween like paint.net, and this is the linux equivalent, i really like the new layout, things just make sense again now, and it makes sense while looking good too!

Pinta looks nice at first, but that is about it. The interface is clean, yet the program lacks many basic features, and even simple things like scaling an image are badly designed, because instead of resizing with the mouse like in most photo editors, you are forced to enter exact percentage values. Stability is another major problem, since opening more tabs, doing slightly complex tasks, or scaling an image too much often leads to crashes, and when that happens, all progress is lost,t and you have to start from scratch. On top of that, customization is almost nonexistent, and compared to tools like GIMP, Photopea, or Affinity, Pinta feels limited and unfinished.

Revisited 2025. Out of numbers of light to medium-weight editors with layer ability, Pinta, stands out for simplicity, ability, and lightweightness. It even has an arrow/leader option. :-)

Free, lightweight, intuitive.

This is an excellent graphics program for those who do not have too many requirements. I discovered it relatively recently, when most (if not all) of the reported shortcomings have been resolved. Coming from Paint.net, I find it perfect for my needs.
