Scanning was extremely fast even on a network share -- about 100 times faster than Windirstat.

After having used Windirstat for "decades" as the best disk usage visualization tool by far, I must say that WizTree is probably the #1 tool to beat now.

On Windirstat, only the Treemap looks a tiny bit more polished on HiDPI screens, because you can make Windirstat show the colored 'file pillows' with a black grid.

Also, when comparing the two Treemaps, in WizTree there seems to be something cut off at the bottom.

Other than that, WizTree seems to be perfect.

This isn't an alternative to windirstat - it's not open source. Having the full knowledge and control over the software is a pretty relevant feature when it's got admin rights to your PC.

Funny how quickly people will sell out their freedom. Yeh, the old one is slower, for now. I'll just start it and keep multitasking like always.

Unless software can do file deduplication (hard links or symbolic links), it does not compare to the functionality of TreeSize.

What is WizTree?

WizTree is a high-speed disk space analyzer utility for Windows. It scans your hard drive and shows you which files and folders are using the most disk space. Your entire hard drive's file system is displayed visually, making it very easy to locate large files and folders. Use the information WizTree provides to quickly locate and remove "space hogs" from your hard drive.

How does it work? When scanning NTFS-formatted hard drives (most modern hard drives use this format), WizTree reads the hard drive's Master File Table (MFT) directly from the disk. The MFT is a special hidden file used by the NTFS file system to keep track of all files and folders on a hard drive. Scanning for files this way completely bypasses the operating system (Windows) and provides a huge performance boost.

WizTree can also scan non-NTFS hard drives, network drives, USB drives and individual directories.
