I don't use it for many bookmarks or anything. I have something else for that. Indeed, I never have thought of Pocket or its similar services as bookmark services, but rather curation services. And Pocket is the best! Owned by the formerly Open and Great Mozilla, it's awesome!
I tested the software in many websites and the result was bad. Let me start by saying that Pocket app will contain ads covering your browser, you are better off using normal browser bookmark than this junk. Now let me tell you what happen:
you need to sign-up, they will not let you use it without agreeing to their TOS. I believe they collect data and sell it to 3th parties but who knows, I haven't read the TOS.
Youtube videos are links, yep like a real bookmark it just saves the link.
webpages are links too, it was never designed to capture everything it seems. Plus you are better off using a screenshot than this horrible app.
no offline use, everything is in a link so don't expect offline use.
ads are awful, my "new tab" was covered with ads and leaving me with 4 browser bookmark pages. The google chrome extension and their page are fill with ads.
news articles are only text like Instapaper.
Does not save pictures, should have already known that by now.
Games are links, no you cant play flash games offline.
Instapaper is better than this.
Was a great tool for late reading. It will be hard to find another solution.
I've been using Pocket since it was actually called Read It Later, and it's still solid for that use case, including offline reading (and yes, that still matters). But lately I've really soured on the way it's turned into a recommendation engine, and I'm giving
wallabag a try.
You can use it to share articles on Social Media, but there's no automatic way to export to any file formats or similar clipping platforms.
It's buggy at best but it has a nice UI. The recommendations are biased and sexist and not curated properly.
It's cheap, unobtrusive and does what it should in a simple way. I use it for reading later, but also bookmarking my articles. The search feature isn't perfect but it's good enough. When I want to learn a new topic or I want to share the way I have learned something with colleagues the first thing I do is search my Pocket archives.
