It's main benefits are that it's reliable and free so you don't have to hesitate to try it out. It has very few limitations, and fewer QUIRKS than Total Commander. It takes 5-10 hours to master - well worth the investment. Start with one panel and the tree and set it to open in a new window so that it works conventionally and you won't have to start out thinking the up to 4 panes are a pain.
The 32bit version is free, but the 64bit version is commercial
It worked great in my Win XP days....nowadays it just loads for ages and doesn't work as fine as it did....I'm on win7 and as the previous previewer mentioned: I guess I might have to go through various options to make it cool for me again....but I don't have the time and I don't think that's the point - it's supposed to be a fast tool that facilitates things that Windows can't be smart enough to provide, right ? RIP, I'll miss you.

In the free 32bit version, under Search files/folder pulldown menu Options, if you check Advanced Mode, you can use Regex.
I was a fan of NC and TC. But in Windows, I'm now adicted to FreeCommander due to its features similar to TC and TC plugin integrations Plus its own features.
I use FreeCommander several times a day. As you learn how to use FreeCommander it's the type of application where you start to wonder how people manage with it.
What I like most about it is the folder size feature.
FreeCommander is a very complete replacement for the Windows File Explorer. Unfortunately, in Windows 10 FreeCommander takes up to 6 seconds to load onscreen while the Windows File Explorer loads in 1 second flat. I really don't like the all-white-no-border File explorer, but on the other hand, once I click on a software I hate waiting for more than 2 seconds.
