Just have used it for 3 days and feel it very highly customizable yet easy to get started.
I have been using the free community based version of PE for many years. I would say it has been practically a lifeline to me in the past. Text expansion, User Interface and Command Line automation, custom key bindings, and a super easy clipboard manager that just works is an extremely invaluable thing..... However in probably the past year the software has been buggy, slow, and is completely useless the majority of the time. Even on easy stuff like text expansion. I just sit there waiting for it to expand my snippets and nothing happens. I have tried everything to fix alas it is not FOSS so that after uninstall reinstall there inst much i can do. Also I have experienced these same issues on my Desktop, Mylaptop and my Surface and alll three use different custom settings, commands and snippets.. So sorry PhraseExpress you have been a good pal and a handy tool but the reason I am visiting this site today is to look into replacing you. Or I may just give up and code up my own tools. Who knows. I have to say that the "support" from this company is abysmal. They are rude, and basically refuse to help. There are NO options for support other than their unhelpful agents unless you want to pay more, and I was told that a software issue I was experiencing was because I needed to upgrade to a more expensive license, they never once actually tried to troubleshoot, not a single question about my setup, recent changes, nothing! I have been in software support for almost 10 years, and if any of our agents treated a client the way they treated me, they would not last long at our company. I will never use them again and advise anyone to STEER CLEAR of them.

If you purchased a license but still receive license notifications:
Open the "About PhraseExpress" dialog. If you do not see the "Standard Edition", "Professional Edition" or "Enterprise Edition", you would need to register the installation with a valid license key. Please learn more at https://www.phraseexpress.com/doc/license/
Our software is available in different product editions with a varying feature set. The Standard Edition is the basic edition which already includes most features. The Professional include advanced features that are not present in the Standard Edition. The Enterprise Edition is top-of-the-line and includes all features we offer. Please compare the editions at https://www.phraseexpress.com/shop/
Even if you have purchased a Standard Edition or Professional Edition with limited feature sets, you can still test all features of higher editions to allow you considering an upgrade if desired. In such case, you will get occasional license notifications that tell you which unpaid feature you are using.
To disable the license notifications:
A) Upgrade to the product edition that include the feature you are using: https://www.phraseexpress.com/shop/upgrade/
B) Stop using features not included in your product edition.
C) To permanently disable license notifications, disable use of unpaid feature in the PhraseExpress settings (under "Features"). In such case, you won't get any license notification at all.

Very powerful. Has the features I need. Support was also quick. Would like to see a Linux version.
The tool is good in theory, but it is buggy and support is no help to say the least.
I contacted them for an issue with images not pasting correctly and asking them some sales related questions. I was asked some more details and then two days passed without any info. When I followed up asking if anything was known about the issue and if they could get back to me regarding the sales questions, they again did not answer any of the questions, just: “Please make your purchase decision on what you find and not what you expect, please.”
Saying I was a bit shocked that they refused to answer even the sales questions I got a mocking 730-word essay on why relaxing is important. All they did was ridicule my questions while I thought there was nothing weird about asking whether it is possible to upgrade once a license is purchased. It turns out the team at Phraseexpress does find that weird enough to ridicule you.
It’s a shame because it has the functionality I need.

Our reply “Please make your purchase decision on what you find and not what you expect.” refers to your question "should I wait with ordering?" as we cannot make a promise if a specific issue can be fixed. Please do not take the communication personal. We have no intention to "ridicule" users. We are technical support and have no interest in you as a person.
I am surprised and cannot confirm this experience. Support was kind and even created a custom video tutorial for me. Couldnt ask for more.
For me the functions of free version are enough.
This is amazing software. Much more than just a simple text expander. Preset Macros can do many things, and you can also make your own macros. Two glitches. 1 current, 1 old. 3/2026 1.old- In some instances you can't use copy/paste from the context menu. This is where it can be very helpful to know the hotkeys Ctrl C copy/ Ctrl V paste. 2.current- I got the Ollama AI running well with Phrase Express 18, but the OpenRouter.AI, which I'd prefer, doesn't work. They say there is a free tier, but my API keys keep getting rejected, and I've tried many tactics. It's also probably good to save a backup file elsewhere too. Thank you Bartles, for the answer to my previous issue. Another thing to note.. The Macro-Recorder option isn't free. Automated clicking is a part of that. Newer AI programs seem to be on the verge of replacing that sort of thing.
You can disable paid features under "Settings » Features". Then you won't get any license notification. Of course, you can also consider to support our work that you like. :-)
